17TH CENTURY LANTERN WALL CLOCK, WILLIAM CAM LONDON.


An original 17th century English lantern clock. The original verge escapement with side ‘wings’ with fretwork tops. Well cast spandrels, the central one engraved ‘William Cam Londini Fecit’. A silvered chapter ring and well engraved dial centre. The original alarm work with central disc.
William Cam of London is recorded in Loomes ‘The Early Clockmakers of Great Britain’ book as being free of the Clockmakers Company in 1686 and died in 1698. He states a lantern clock is recorded signed ‘William Cam Londini Fecit’. This clock has come direct from a private collection where it has been since purchased in the 1960’s. It has lovely old patina and is in relatively ‘untouched’ condition.
